A Texas mother is seeking compensation from the two people she says are
responsible for accidentally killing her teen son. According to the
wrongful death claim, both the owner of the gun and the person who handled the gun were
liable in the accidental shooting. The mother has asked for more than
one million dollars in compensation for her son's death.
The
fatal accident occurred while the alleged shooter and a friend were detailing the gun
owner's truck. The claim cites the gun owner for his negligence when
he left his loaded weapon unsecured inside of the truck. Although details
of the incident are unclear, the shooter allegedly killed the victim after
improper handling of the firearm. Statements from the court document that
was filed say that the victim's death never should have happened.
The mother of the deceased teen, who would have been a high school senior,
has requested a jury trial to decide her case. Among her requests in the
claim, she has asked that the parties at fault compensate her for court
costs, punitive damages and the pain and suffering experienced by her
son when he was fatally injured.
After someone is killed, parents, spouses and children of the deceased
victim may choose to file a wrongful death claim and seek compensation
for their grief from the person or people at fault. When multiple people
are guilty of negligence, a personal injury lawyer in Austin may be able
to help family members seek compensation from all of the parties liable
for the death.
