DePuy Orthopedics, Inc. recalled the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System after it was shown that within five (5) years, one (1) in eight (8) patients needed revision surgery. Serious pain and problems with mobility can result when the inserted medical device does not properly fit or work. According to news reports, the ASR XL has been on the market since 2003.
